Posted by Wheezer Society member Steve Lindstedt| I just heard a very interesting interview on the radio with Helmsman Sulu. He first told of being sent to an internment camp for Japanese-Americans at the age of four, he was there, with his family until he was eight years of age. In the very open conversation, he then discussed his sexuality and the subsequent 'outing'. He said that the cast of Star Trek all had their suspicions, but there was one small moment that was a wind-fall event for him. He said that he has his friend Walter Koenig (Chekov) to thank. In his narrative, it was during the shooting of an episode on the 'Enterprise' bridge. He said that the Star Trek uniforms were very tight-fitting and "Almost too small" George went on to say that during that shoot, "Walter evidently noticed a very well-endowed and attractive extra on the set, standing behind me, he stepped over to me, and nudged me to check him out. It was then that I knew that Walter knew. ...." I am very thankful to the whole cast and production personnel for their support when this kind of thing could have my career at that time."
