Dave Rogoway - Dave 'Records' Stone

Fellow Portland Blogger Dave 'Records' Stone (aka Dave Rogoway) has been publishing his blog called Stumptown Blogger for a while now. I have it as one of my daily RSS feeds to read, as he's always publishing something interesting about Portland on his blog.

One of Dave's favorite subjects is KISN Radio (91derful!) Dave was not only one of the youngest DJ to be on the air but he was the last DJ to serve up tunes when the Mighty 91 K-I-S-N went silent on September 4th, 1976 at 12:01 AM PDT

Happy 8th Birthday iPod

8 Years ago, Apple launched it's first iPod. Cutting edge scroll wheel, could hold 1,000 songs, interfaced with that new software called iTunes running on OS 9, had contacts and calendar integration. Wow, those were heady times!

Up until that point, I'd been using Audion from Panic Software (Great story here) for all my MP3 files. I'd also played around with another music playing program called SoundJam. Then, Apple released it's own music library called iTunes in early 2001. You could easily burn CD's of any digital music you had on your computer (Napster!). Just 9 months later, the iPod was unleashed and I've never looked back.

I still have my first one, and use it hold up a chair in the Dining Room. (Just Kidding!) Actually, after I upgraded (downgraded?) to a Nano, I used it for a few years as an external hard drive. And yes, I still have it and yes, it still works.

Postbox - New Email Application

The past few days I've been testing Postbox, a new desktop email application with awesome search and Web connectivity features. You can download the Postbox Beta at http://getpostbox.com. I don't know at this point if it will replace Apple's Mail program, but I've been using it for my Gmail account. Since it's based on Webkit, I'm getting a very nice, smooth experience. - Scott Leverenz

Happy Birthday Mac

It's was 25 years ago today that things changed forever. 1984. Apple released their first Macintosh desktop computer.

I remember the first time used the Mac - it was at a friend's house - Bob Russell - in 1985. We were in his office and he was showing me his new Macintosh Computer and this thing called a mouse.... being a cartoonist, we opened MacPaint and I drew a cartoon of Santa Claus. Wow - right there on the screen was what I had just drawn with this mouse thing. He printed out the drawing (I still have it somewhere) and things haven't been the same since.

Bob was a general contractor who had started working with the Mac after using a Lisa for his contracting business. Eventually he went full time into not only database development for the Mac, but became an Apple Reseller, too.
