Uncle Chuck home on leave with, from left, my Aunt Joanne, my mother, Jeanne, and my cousin Jon. This was after Chuck had survived the attack at Pearl Harbor in 1941. He saw battle at Guadalcanal and survived. Uncle Chuck died July 6, 1943, one of the 168 Americans killed in the Battle of Kula Gulf, which took place between Kolombangara in the Solomon Islands.
