First Men in the Moon
Back in grade school, I remember well the British science fiction movie, FIRST MEN IN THE MOON (1964) an enjoyable science fiction film adapted from H.G. Wells' novel. When the US lands on the moon in modern day 1964, and elderly British scientist is very worried and contacts NASA to tell them to get off the moon as quickly as possible. You see, he was with the 1899 British crew landed that on the moon and is attacked by Ray Harryhausen's creations. Director Nathan Juran also directed ATTACK OF THE 50-FOOT WOMAN, using the name Nathan Hertz, Juran also directed many sci-fi television shows, including Land of the Giants, The Time Tunnel and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. He shared an Oscar for his design of John Ford's HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY.

It's gratifying how many of today's sci-fi directors pay tribute to Harryhausen in their films. As for How Green Was My Valley, the classic scene is the one where Roddy McDowell comes home from school, beaten and bloodied by the young, vicious, prig of a schoolmaster. Two of his Uncles, incensed, show up in the classroom to give the bully a "boxing lesson". The whole film still stands up today with the best.
