For some, the ultimate accessory is a piece of jewelry, shoes, or a handbag. For others, it’s a pet. However, not everyone is able to share space with fluffy creatures. A company called Allerca is making it its mission to produce the world’s first hypoallergenic cats. By using a method called “gene silencing”, Allerca is planning to weaken the particular gene that produces the glycoprotein Fel d 1, the most prominent cat allergen. The British Shorthair is the first breed Allerca is working with and the first hypoallergenic kittens are scheduled to be ready in 2007.
Allerca claims to be developing more “lifestyle” pets over the next several years. From customized cars to design it yourself sneakers, it seems as though anything can be tailor-made to your liking. While we can’t say we necessarily endorse the practice, will “customized” pets be the wave of the future? via TrendCentral
That sounds wonderful..gene-splicing for pets.
But, I'm wondering, if someone brings a cat into thier home and THEN realizes that they
are allergic to the beast, Do you not think that a little research would have been in
order??
By the way, I am looking for a genetic
mutant-dog that is programmed to shit only
once a week and vacuum his own goddam hair
off the rug . . . Asking too much??
