iPhoto To Twitter

Blue Crowbar Software has released an iPhoto plugin that sends images from your iPhoto library to Twitter, using the TwitPic service. iPhoto2Twitter requires iPhoto '08 or '09, Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and is compatible with both Intel & PowerPC based Macs.

iPhoto: Share Photos With Windows Users

This tip is from Apple's website: How to burn a CD or DVD with pictures for a Windows-based computer LINK

A CD or DVD created in iPhoto using the Burn command in the Share menu cannot be viewed on a Microsoft Windows-based computer or at a photo development lab.

Burn the disc using the Finder instead of iPhoto.

In the Finder, insert a blank CD or DVD. Your disc will show up on your desktop as a Burn Folder (as seen in the images below).



Open iPhoto.

Select the Album(s) you wish to burn to disc.

Choose File > Export.

Click the File Export tab.

Choose a format from the Format pop-up menu.

Note: Depending on the source of the images, you may want to select JPEG to ensure compatibility.

Configure the Size and Name options that you want. Make sure the "Use extension" or "Use filename" option is selected.

Click Export.

Select the Burn Folder you created to save the exported photos to and click OK.

Quit iPhoto when the export has completed.

From your desktop, open your disc's Burn folder and select the "Burn" button (as seen below).

Enhance Images For iPhoto

Datamind Products has released an upgrade to their photo enhancement application Jade. Jade is not a plug-in, but an external application that will work with iPhoto when you configure Jade to edit your photos: open “iPhoto > Preferences…” menu and set Jade in the “Edit photo” popup menu as an external editor.


Then select the photos you want to edit in iPhoto and click the “Edit” button. Jade will start with the selected photos in the gallery.

iPhoto Integration With MyPublisher

One of the neatest features in iPhoto is the book publishing feature. For the past few years, our family has done annual "recaps" of the year and made copies available to any family member that wants one.

For some, the book publishing feature in iPhoto my be a bit too narrow of a selection in book size and the templates or themes that Apple offers.

Their Mac application called "MyPublisher" resides in your Applications folder. Once it's opened, it will walk you through the process of assembling and creating a book. The integration of iPhoto into the application is key to making this work (see screen shot). YOu can pick and choose the photos you want to use directly from the library, or create an album of the images you want to use for your book and then select them from that album. By creating the album, you can arrange them in the order you want ahead of time and then place them in sequence while assembling the pages.

Manage Many Libraries in iPhoto 09

iPhoto Library Manger is avery useful application that allows you to conveniently organize and edit your digital photos in multiple iPhoto libraries. iPhoto Library Manager adds an additional level of control over your iPhoto collection by allowing you to keep your photos in multiple libraries and transfer them back and forth without losing your keywords, ratings, and all the other information you’ve worked to assign to your photos. Libraries can be split into smaller ones, or smaller libraries can be merged together into one large library. iPhoto '09: The Missing Manual

myPhoto updated for iPhoto '09

myPhoto is a program that generates a photo album on your web site for you with your iPhoto images. How does it do it? Mac OS X comes with a web server pre-installed (called Apache) and myPhoto both configures and activates this server and generates a full featured PHP-based web site. This 'built-in" web site is always up-to-date and features all of the meaningful data from iPhoto you'd want on your web site--your albums, captions, a search engine, etc. It runs off of your Mac at home (iMac, G4, G5, Mini--whatever!) using your existing Internet connection and is online when you are. If you're worried that you don't have a web site yet, it's ok--install myPhoto and you will. All you have to do is plug in your digital camera, import your photos as you normally would into iPhoto, and your photos are on your web page! And what did you have to do to put them there? iPhoto Archive With Burn To Disc (BurnToDisc)

Have you ever tried to archive you images from iPhoto to a CD or DVD? When you select more images than will fit onto one (1) disc, you run into and error: "There is not enough space on the disc to burn all the photos you selected. Select fewer photos and try again."

NOTE: I tried to set this up on my Mac Pro, and seriously it was a hassle. I have to change this, and modify that, on and on. I deleted the entire file, which was placed in my user account's website folder. Not for the average user. I'd rather spend the $99 and upload images to MobileMe to share.

Jim Heid and Kelly Turner have written and article that helps understand the newer features Apple's iPhoto 08. You can also broaden your search by having iPhoto perform an OR search--for example, to find photos of family and/or friends--by holding down the shift key when clicking on additional keywords. Want to run a search that excludes one or more keywords? Simply option-click on the keyword that you want to exclude (see "Searching Keywords").

Find iPhoto Duplicates With Tidy Up!

The devlopers over at Hyperbolic Software have updated their Tidy Up! application to be compatible with Leopard, but they have added the ability for the program with work with iPhoto 7.1.3.

With Tidy Up! you can search for duplicate files and packages; by the owner application, content, type, creator, extension, time modified, time created, name, label, visibility and delays. You can also search by the tag, duration and bit installments of MP3 and AAC sound files, search the contents of the iPhoto, iTunes, iPod databases and Mail mailboxes, and synchronize deletions with iPhoto, Mail and iTunes.
